About

DEPTH aims to dissect the epistemologies of digital methods in historical research, focusing on the impact and knowledge implications of digital tools in historical practice—from word processors to supercomputers. We connect research projects that incorporate digital methodologies at the History Department at Lund University and invite historians to reflect on their research practices in relation to digital infrastructures and activities. This is a space for sharing first steps, experiments, redirections, and failures. Connecting with broader networks of international scholars in digital history, this node will deepen our understanding of how shifting technological landscapes transform the historian’s craft.

OPEN ACTIVITIES: DEPTH will host invited lectures, tailored workshops for particular tools, roundtables between research nodes, challenge seminars to discuss potential benefits and pitfalls of particular approaches in digital history.

TEACHING: Engagement with students at bachelor’s and master’s levels through research mentorships and introductory level lectures; continue the MA course in Digital History.

PUBLIC SECTOR: DEPTH will continue ongoing collaborations with AI safety networks and will include perspectives from the humanities and historical fields in discussions on the future of AI via this website.
